Make Time to Listen…Take Time to Talk about About Having a Fun and Safe Summer!

Having Fun and Keeping Busy:

  1. Have the kids plan a family day that includes meals, events, and activities or even just one family meal that they can help cook and serve.
  2. Kidpool - get together with the parents of your child's friends and agree to consolidate the kids a few days a week.
  3. Encourage participation in athletic activities or special summer programs: YMCA, community recreation, church, library.
  4. Get outside. Take a walk, ride bikes, fly kites and play games together as a family.

Being Safe:

  1. Beware that kids often begin experimenting with alcohol and drugs in the summer when they have more freedom and less direct supervision.
  2. Make sure you know where your child is and when they will be home.
  3. If they are playing alone outside make sure they know to be aware of their surroundings and come inside if they notice anything out of the ordinary. It is also good to have them check in every so often.

Mark your calendar for the annual K.I.S.S. (Keep It a Safe Summer) event on May 21 from 5:30 - 8:00 PM at the Lyon County Fairgrounds! This is no-cost carnival event for kids with food, prizes, and fun as well as entertaining and informational booths for parents on how children can stay safe and have fun this summer! This event is sponsored by Emporians for Drug Awareness and Safe and Drug Free Schools and funded by the Eagles Club.
